Latest news  //

Manchester is the cancer capital of England. Death rates from the disease are higher than anywhere else in the country.

There are many reasons for this such as poor lifestyles and people going to see their GP too late. But one thing is certain: this is a situation which cannot carry on.

Unless this current generation starts to take stock, this sorry picture could get even worse.

Fortunately, thanks to pioneering work at places like the Christie, treatments are getting better and survival rates are improving all the time. But the best cure of all has to be to not get the disease in the first place and there are many things you can do to reduce your risk of cancer.

The Cause  //

We chose Christie Hospital as our headline charity because of the work they do in cancer treatment and care. Based in Manchester, it's the largest single-site cancer treatment centre in Europe and an international leader in cancer research and development.

But the nature of research means results are felt worldwide.

T-cell therapy is a new form of treatment being pioneered at the Christie and the world's first ever patient trials will be taking place later in the year. Basically the idea is that T-cells are removed from a patient, genetically modified in the labs and then injected back into the patient where they seek our and destroy cancerous cells. In other words they find the cancer and then repeatedly punch holes in the tumour until it disintegrates.

They need a million pounds to make this happen and we can provide that money through our projects. More info

By joining us and supporting the Christie Hospital, your money could help change the way cancer is treated around the world.

This is the official Manchester v Cancer site, giving definitive information about the concert and future events.

January 28th, 2006 was a date we won't forget; the bands and the music were unique and incredible.

It's dedicated to everyone who's been touched by cancer.

These are your events and we want to hear from you – your messages of hope, support, just memories. With the help of Christie Hospital we want to show you're not alone and people are out there to help.
